Tracy ‘Defender of Liberty’
Fourth District Congressional candidate Jim Tracy received a high honor recently from the American Conservative Union, a prominent conservative policy organization.
Tracy was one of only two state senators named a Defender of Liberty in the group’s 2013 State Legislative Ratings, based on a grading of their legislative votes during the prior year. Tracy and Sen. Joey Hensley (R-Hohenwald) were the only senators earning the top grade available.
The ACU, which has rated members of the United States Congress for 42 years and become the gold standard of conservative voter education guides, began rolling out ratings of state legislatures in 2011.
ACU Chairman Al Cardenas commended Tennessee conservatives in the legislature for moving the state in the right direction. “The legislature should be commended for strengthening Second Amendment rights, protecting religious freedom on campus and instituting performance based standards for teacher retention during their 2013 session,” Cardenas said in a release from the group.
Tracy said he prides himself on being an effective conservative legislator. “Washington, D.C., is full of people who say they are conservative, but too many of them in Congress never get anything done,” Tracy said. “I’m proud that in Nashville, the conservatives aren’t just changing the room temperature with hot air, but changing the laws of the whole state, in a more conservative direction.”
