South Lincoln’s Lady Eagles won over a tough Lady Bulldog team from Blanche 42-35 to claim the County Middle School Championship last week.

The Lady Eagles advanced to the title match by defeating Unity’s Lady Lions 33-18. Blanche’s Lady Bulldogs had knocked off Highland Rim’s Lady Hornets in a barnburner, 45-41, to advance.

It was Coach Melanie Beddingfield’s first title in her four years at the helm of the Lady Eagles – the ladies wrap up their season undefeated at 10-0. The Lady Dogs are led by three-year Coach Scott Woodfin, assisted by Timmy Swinford. It was Blanche’s second time to play for a title this year, having advanced to the Lions Club Tip-Off Tournament Championship earlier in the season.

The Lady Eagles won the first frame 11-8, but the Lady Bulldogs brought the fight as Brianna Faulkner put Blanche up 15-13 with 5:25 in the second. It was Sadie Wolaver who had the answer for South Lincoln, nailing back-to-back three’s and putting the Lady Eagles back on top 23-18 at the 3:55 mark. South Lincoln won the remaining minutes 5-4 and was up 28-22 going into intermission.

The scoring slowed for both teams in the third. With 1:45 on the clock, Lady Eagles had their largest lead of the night when they were up 34-23. South Lincoln won the period 6-3 and was on top 34-25 going into the final frame. Blanche won the final six minutes 10-8 but were never able to regain the lead. At the buzzer, South Lincoln had the win 42-35.
