Lincoln County’s Rachel Sharp started her weight loss journey with Carol Tunstill at the Weight Control Center in January 2013.
Twelve months later, Rachel has lost 145 pounds.
“Rachel weighed 310 pounds when we met, and this past Christmas she weighed 165 pounds,” said Carol. “She wore a size 26 then, and now she wears a size 12.
“During our nine years in business, we have never had a client to lose 145 pounds in one year,” Carol continued.
“Our individual diet coaching finds that everyone has different requirements for weight loss,” Carol explained. “We developed a diet for Rachel to meet her lifestyle needs. She did not have to buy any special foods or products, just good southern cooking.
“It was a daily thing to slowly switch over to healthier options until it became a habit,” she added.
Rachel’s life changed when her grandson was born. It was then she decided to begin her weight loss journey.
“I knew in my heart and mind that I needed to lose weight,” said Rachel. “I feel like I cheated my kids a little in life because of my weight. Being overweight limited me; there were so many things I could not do because I did not have the energy. Some days, I just barely made it through my work day.
“The turning point in my weight loss story started when I was blessed with a beautiful grandson named Jayden,” she explained. “I was on my way to visit him when I could not shake the way I felt about being overweight. I pulled over on the side of the road to make what now has proven to be the most important phone call I have ever made. I called Carol Tunstill at the Weight Control Center, and after a lengthy conversation, we scheduled an appointment to meet. I knew several people that Carol has guided and helped, and I knew she was exactly what I needed.”
She started the plan immediately and the past months have taken Rachel where she hasn’t been in 20 years.
“It is so wonderful to be able to keep up with the kids and enjoy myself without feeling so tired. Now shopping for clothes is fun because I can shop in the ‘normal’ clothes.”
People ask Rachel all the time, “What made this diet different?”
“Once you take hunger and cravings out of the equation, the only weight loss demon you’re really fighting is the temptations,” she explained. “This is where the weekly counseling and support helped tremendously.
“As the weight came off every week, I realized that I had changed what was in my head. In other words, I was already a thin and healthy person just waiting to be revealed. For some reason, that clicked, and from then on I lived the plan,” Rachel explained.
She lost weight nearly every week and never had a week when she gained weight.
“I plan to stay on a maintenance plan for several months,” she said.
“I feel good about myself — that’s the important thing. My future is bright, and my possibilities are endless. My doctor states that my health is excellent, and I love life,” Rachel said.
“I would like to thank my family for all their support. Also, thanks to my work family at the Chuckwagon Diner for their encouragement and the time off to keep my appointments with Carol every week. A special thanks to my customers who watched the weight change every week and cheered me on.”
