Tigers win over Rockets; split in Holiday Classic

Fayetteville High School’s Tigers split in the Summertown Classic, winning over Summertown, 64-51, but going down at the buzzer to Fayette Academy, 53-51.

Going into the Christmas break, the Tigers won in district action, 59-46, over Forrest.

Currently in District 9-A standings, MTCS is 4-0; Fayetteville, 4-1; Community, 3-1; Forrest, 2-1; Huntland, 1-4; Moore County, 1-4; and Eagleville is 0-4.

Saturday the Tigers won over the host Summertown team, 64-51.

City trailed 20-17 at the end of one but broke the game open in the second, taking the frame, 19-5, led by Nicholas Hopkins with 8 points in the period. The Tigers were up 36-25 at the intermission.

FHS won the second half, 28-26, for the win.

Hopkins led with 20 points; James Keith, 19; Michael Parks, 11; Darren Patterson, Cain McWilliams, 5; Aaron Parks and Darrion King had 2.

The Tigers were 12 of 16 from the line. Michael Parks and Patterson hit 1 each from the arch.

Friday Fayetteville matched up with Fayette Academy and went down on a shot at the buzzer, 53-51. James Keith went out with an injury early but missed the one game. The Tigers took a five-point lead into the final frame but couldn’t hang on.

City was up 17-15 at the end on one and took a 28-24 lead into the intermission. Up 45-40, the Tigers went cold, and Bowling poured in 12 of his 28 points for the Vikings. In the final seconds, FHS was up 51-50, but Bowling nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the win. Fayette Academy won the period, 13-6.

Aaron Parks led the scoring with 17; Michael Parks, 11; Darrion King, Cain McWilliams and Darren Patterson, 6; and Nicholas Hopkins scored 5.

The Tigers were 8 of 12 from the line and hit eight from the arch coming from Aaron Parks with 4, Darren Patterson, 2, and Darrion King and Michael Parks, 1 each.

Before the Christmas break, the Tigers trailed Forrest at home much of the game but came back for a big fourth quarter for the win, 59-46. FHS was down 13-10 at the end of one and 30-26 at the intermission.

In the third frame, the lead would either change or be tied 10 times during the eight minutes. The Rockets were up 40-39 going into the fourth.

With 7:46 in final period, James Keith knotted it at 40-40 from the line. At the 7:14 mark, Nicholas Hopkins put the Tigers up 42-40. FHS would not trail again. Fayetteville won the fourth period, 20-6, to finish with the win.

Michael Parks led the scoring for the Tigers with 18 points; James Keith, 17; Aaron Parks, 14; Nicholas Hopkins, 8; and Cain McWilliams scored 2.

Fayetteville was 8 of 9 from the line. Michael Parks hit 3 from the arch, and Aaron Parks hit two.

The Tigers host Giles County Friday night of this week starting at 6 p.m., then return to district play traveling to Eagleville Jan. 7.
