SCV elects officers for local camp

 

New officers of the John R. Massey Camp # 152, Sons of Confederate Veterans, were recently elected.

The 2014 officers are Dr. James Armitage, Commander; Mack Pickett, First Lt. Commander; Matthew Armitage, 2nd Lt. Commander; and James Shelton, Adjutant.

Camp 152 meets at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the Fayetteville Munici-pal Building. Anyone interested in membership is always welcome to attend.

The namesake of the camp was one of three Confederate martyrs brutally murdered by Union Army occupation forces in Lincoln County in 1864. A marker describing the murder of the three men in 1864 is located next to the Confederate soldier monument on the courthouse grounds.

The SCV is a national heritage organization for men with a qualifying ancestor who served honorably in the Confederate Army or Navy.
