As we near the end of 2013, I have had some great opportunities to look back over the course of the year and rejoice in all the great things we have done here at the library and the outpouring of community support that has come our way.

We have added great programming, particularly for kids, and continue to expand our offerings for teens and adults. We have made great progress on updating our book collection, including adding the beginnings of e-books for our patrons. Most importantly, I have had the opportunity to get to know the people who frequent the library and learn what they would like to see offered and work to bring those ideas to life for the enjoyment and benefit of as many people as possible. Looking ahead to 2014, I am beyond excited!

The library will have a calendar full of wonderful events for all ages next year, and we are working on improving those already in place. We will take a break from special programming in January in order to perform inventory and get a handle on our collection. However, in February things kick off on the first with our Cosplay/Anime party that night.

We are looking at adding a Toddler Story Time in addition to our regular story time, as well as adding a new art and music component to our afternoon sessions for older, school-aged children. A full range of offerings will be in place for adult computer skills, and the Friends of the Library Speaker Series will be in full swing throughout the year.

We are also expanding our tutoring sessions and adding a new component of strategic reading intervention for children struggling with literacy. Our Summer Reading Program wills this year include a teen and adult extension as we celebrate all things science.

We will of course continue our partnerships with local school librarians and will continue to reach out to our local homeschoolers. 2014 will also see more happenings in the arts here at the library, with regular concerts and art openings within our beautiful facility.

The new “Geek the Library” campaign for library awareness will take shape throughout the year in an effort to bring to light the importance of public libraries throughout the nation. It is, without doubt, going to be an exciting year at your local library!
