Inaugural Turkey Trot a success
Lucy Higgins, Chloe Frame and Olivia Mann show off the gifts they received for finishing the recent 5K Turkey Trot Fun Run.
The inaugural 2013 Turkey Trot was held at the Cotton Mill Preserve on Nov. 30, the first Saturday after Thanksgiving. Although it was a chilly fall morning, the sun was shining at 9 a.m. when the event began.
Runners of all ages turned out for the 5K and 10K race, which was a fun-run and walk. Steve Swindall with Run Lincoln County supplied the timer and start line, so runners could track their personal goals.
Top 5K runners were Hunter Higgins, Esra Por Arnason and Alexander Lucas, and the top 10K runners were Seth Mann, Clay Higgins and Steve Swindall.
Seventy-seven participants attended on Saturday, but dozens of other folks enjoyed walking and running the trails, which were open to the public Wednesday through Friday.
Even the dogs enjoyed the Turkey Trot Fun Run held Thanksgiving weekend at Cotton Mill Preserve.
“We are very lucky to have a place to exercise that is right in the middle of our community and is safe and well maintained,” said Anita Siefert who, along with her husband, Jeff, enjoyed their walk on Friday morning.
Folks interested in local runs can find information at Run Lincoln County’s website at runlincolncounty.com.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Turkey Trot will benefit The Lincoln County Tennis Team, a countywide tennis program for middle school students.
