Heart Walk raises $42K
Hundreds of people turned out on a beautiful day for some exercise and to raise money to help combat cardiovascular disease for the American Heart Association.
This year’s walk, which began at Patrick Rehab Wellness Center, was held in memory of the late Vernon and Mary Katherine Spurlock and in honor of Jimmy Ellis and Bill Stovall.
The walk included blood pressure screenings, heart healthy recipes and a kids’ zone.
Some of the sponsors were Goodman employees, Frito-Lay, Fayetteville Public Utilities, Lincoln County Health System, First National Bank, Bank of Lincoln County, Landers McClarty Toyota, Fayetteville Public Utilities and G-Squared.
The event raised over $42,000 with funds still coming in.
Proceeds to the American Heart Association have made it possible for legislation to be passed that every student in Lincoln County may be trained in hands-on CPR and every baby born to be screened for Pulse Oximetry, which checks for heart defects in newborns.
