Lady Knights win Lions Tip Off Championship
Riverside Christian Academy’s Middle School Lady Knights finished in the top spot of the 2013 Lions Club Tip Off Tournament Saturday held at Ninth Grade Academy, taking the win over Blanche’s Lady Bulldogs, 43-38.
The ladies went through the weeklong double elimination tournament undefeated.
Blanche advanced to the championship game defeating Fayetteville Middle School’s Lady Tigers, 28-25, in the semifinals earlier in the day.
In the championship, the first quarter got off to a slow start. The Lady Bulldogs were up 5-4 at the end of one.
The Lady Knights won the second frame, 10-8, and were up 14-13 at the break.
RCA kept their foot on the gas, taking the third period, 14-3, on top 28-16, but the excitement was far from over. The Lady Bulldogs got on a 14-2 run in the fourth, and Brianna Faulkner knotted it at 30-30, dropping two from the line with 3:34 remaining in the game. Faulkner would go 8 of 10 from the line in the period.
At the 3:22 mark, RCA’s Emma Campbell made two from the line, putting the Lady Knights up 32-30. Riverside would not trail again, winning the final three minutes, 13-8, for the win.
Emma Campbell led for the Lady Knights with 23 points, 11 coming in the fourth quarter. Kennedy Honey finished with 14 points with 2 from the arch; Rachel Hill, 4; Ellie Hammons, 2; and Libby Wright scored 1.
RCA was 8 of 15 from the line.
McKenzie Swinford set the pace for the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points. Brianna Faulkner had 14; Kristen Arnold and Ricka Humphrey scored 3.
Blanche was 10 of 16 from the line.
