Six locals run in Ragnar Relay

Six from Lincoln County were part of a successful 12-member team that ran in this year’s Ragnar Relay, a 198.6-mile run from Chattanooga to Nashville benefiting Soles for Souls.

The team’s name is “Run Lincoln County” led by Captain David Owens. Other locals on the team were Doug Daniel, Beth Hiett, John Perry, David Thurman and Chad Hancock.

Huntsville runners included David Bier, Lindsey Shady, Loren Traylor, Shari Crowe, Julia Troxtel and Tim Wood.

Out of a field of 228 teams, the group finished in 10th place overall and 3rd in the Mixed Open with a time of 26 hours and 20 minutes for a 7:57 average per mile. Each team member ran three legs of the relay.

Sponsors for the event were Swift Wicks, Turf Care and Higgins Funeral Home.

Local volunteers helping the team in the event were Debbie Reese, Shirley McCoy and Nelana Towry.
