Pleasant View Cemetery, an African American cemetery located on William Battle Boulevard in Fayetteville, is the focus of a newly formed committee dedicated primarily to assist in its upkeep and help ensure it will be maintained as a beautiful, sacred resting place for deceased loved ones.
This committee, consisting of Brian Carter, Tracey Duke, Pam Bryson, Odessa Dangerfield, Gwen Foxx, Amenia (MeMe) Landers, Jinson Knott, Joyce Eady, and Darrell Dangerfield, has established some rules and regulations that are effective immediately.
Those rules include that there will be no fences or borders around graves; no foliage on graves; all decorations must be contained on the tombstone or headstone; no decorative stones, vases, or balloons on graves; no disposing of trash in ditches, open spaces or other plots; no burning of grass; trash may be placed at the corner of each entrance; and all non-compliant items will be disposed.
In order to allow time to abide by these new rules and regulations, there will be a Pleasant View Cemetery Clean-up Day on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for those who need to become compliant. There will be committee members present that day to assist in any way possible.
Everyone has until Nov. 2 to dispose of any items that don’t comply. After this date the committee will dispose of any non-compliant items. Committee members encourage those who have loved ones there to please cooperate with the committee so that the cemetery can be properly maintained.
If you have any questions, please contact a committee member.
