Lincoln County Sheriff Murray Blackwelder and Fayetteville Police Chief Richard Howell are partnering to present the 2013 Citizens’ Police Academy, a series of 10 classes that will meet on Tuesdays beginning on Oct. 29.
“You don’t have to be a resident of Lincoln County to attend … and there is no charge,” said Sgt. Jeff Bradford of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, who has been a speaker with the police academy for 16 years.
The 10 class meetings will start at 6:30 p.m. on consecutive Tuesdays at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department on Thornton Taylor Parkway.
Subjects to be covered in the academy are crime scene investigations, domestic violence, child abuse, criminal and drug investigations, and much more, the sheriff said in the announcement last week. Participants will also tour the sheriff’s and police departments as well as the E911 Communications Center.
“They get to ride with the sheriff’s department and go on patrol with deputies to see how it works – I think it’s been an eye-opening experience,” Sgt. Bradford said.
In past classes, Huntsville’s MedFlight has flown to Fayetteville, and the class learns about what MedFlight does and view the inside of the helicopter.
If you have questions or would like to attend, call the sheriff’s department at (931) 433-9821.
