A Lincoln County High School student has been nominated to represent the state of Tennessee at the 2014 Congress Of Future Medical Leaders in Washington, D.C.

Kayce Adams, an LCHS junior and daughter of Yvonne Mayhall and Richard Mayhall of Fayetteville, has been nominated for the Congress which was created by The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists to gather the country’s finest high school students who aspire to careers in medicine. Students who attend the Congress meet face-to-face with winners of the Nobel Prize, the most prestigious award in the world; award winning young inventors and scientists; top medical school deans; Ivy League academic leaders; leaders of medicine; fascinating patients; and medical futurists.

During the Congress, students will view surgery and have an opportunity to submit questions for the surgeon to answer in real time during the procedure. They will learn about state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and be inspired by world changing researchers, futurists and technologists. Additionally, students will be eligible to compete for a full medical school scholarship, up to $185,000 of tuition, as well as two, $10,000 medical school scholarships.

The Congress is an academic honors program, and all attendees are selected based on proven academic excellence and a demonstrated desire to enter the medical profession. All students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA (or equivalent) to be nominated.

Kayce has been an honor student throughout her school career and is a member of the LCHS marching band. She is active in her church and volunteers at a homeless shelter in Huntsville, Ala.

She plans to major in medical science and minor in music in college.

Donations are being accepted to help Kayce pay for the cost of attending the Congress in February. An account has been set up at the Bank of Lincoln County in the name of Kayce Brook Adams if you would like to assist her with financing for the trip.
