Chihuahua nurses orphaned kittens
Puppy’s love is blind when it comes to babies – the seven-year-old Chihuahua is nursing orphaned kittens.
The kittens were found a day after a dead mother cat had been found in an Alabama scrap yard where Brandi Pearson’s uncle worked. Her uncle brought the orphaned kittens to Park City where Brandi and her mother live and asked that they care for the babies.
Brandi bought some tiny baby bottles and formula and began feeding the three-week-old kittens. Oddly enough, it wasn’t long before the kittens didn’t want to bottle feed anymore.
“Puppy”, Brandi’s seven-year-old Chihuahua, decided that the babies needed some extra care — “She took the kittens away,” said Brandi, “and she started mothering them.”
Now, Puppy hadn’t had a litter of babies for about three years, but she began to produce milk and started nursing the kittens. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” Brandi said, noting she also has two other cats, and Puppy chases the cats away from the kittens. “She is very protective,” Brandi explained. “I think she just knows they’re orphan kittens, and they need a home.”
Brandi just wishes that people were as kind as Puppy is in caring for children who aren’t theirs. She plans to find homes for the kittens in a few weeks once they’re old enough for adoption, that is, if Puppy will allow it. Please call Brandi about adopting a kitten at 433-3269.
