Sir’s Quilt Contest to benefit toy drive

Sir’s Fabrics in Fayetteville has announced it will hold two quilt contests, as well as offer a Sir’s Employees’ Choice Award, all of which will offer sewing machines and prizes and benefit the Lincoln County Toy Drive this year.

There are three primary rules to enter the contests. First, quilts must be a minimum twin size, or approximately 68 by 89 inches. Secondly, entries will be judged in two categories, either hand quilted or machine quilted. And thirdly, all fabric, quilt batting, and all other contents and supplies must be purchased from Sir’s between Aug. 26 and Nov. 4, 2013.

The time frame will allow the quilts to be on display during “Fayetteville … Host of Christmas Past” in November.

In the hand quilt category, first prize will be a Brother Simplicity sewing machine and $25 Sir’s gift certificate. Second place prize will be a $50 Sir’s gift certificate and a set of twin scissors, and third place prize will be a $25 Sir’s gift certificate and set of twin scissors.

In the machine quilt category, first prize will be a Brother sewing machine and a $25 Sir’s gift certificate. The second place prize will be a $50 Sir’s gift certificate and a set of twin scissors, and third place will be a $25 Sir’s gift certificate and a set of twin scissors.

Winners in both the hand quilt and machine quilt categories will be determined by public voting. The cost to submit a ballot will be $1, and all ballot money will be donated to the toy drive.

Additionally, after the first, second and third place winners have been selected in the two categories, all remaining entries will be judged by Sir’s employees, and one prize will be awarded. The recipient will win a Brother Simplicity sewing machine and a $25 Sir’s gift certificate.

The turn-in dates for the quilts are anytime between Oct. 21 and Nov. 4. Additional rules and information about the contest are posted at Sir’s Fabrics located on North Elk Avenue in Fayetteville.
