Johnny Royce Bailey, Sr., 69, of Ardmore, Ala., died Friday (Sept. 27, 2013) at his home. Funeral services were held Monday morning at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home. Burial was in Gatlin Cemetery. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
William D. “Squeaky” Billings, 83, of Mulberry died Monday evening (Sept. 23, 2013) in Huntsville Hospital. A native of Athens, Ala., but longtime resident of Lincoln County, Mr. Billings was the son of the late Clifford and Clara Billings. He was a former truck driver for A&P Grocery, former employee of Walmart and a volunteer fireman for Mulberry. Survivors include his nephews, Jerry Billings and wife, Gail, of Hazel Green, Ala., Cory Billings of Georgia and C.B. Billings and wife, Piper, of Georgia; two nieces, Kelly Billings of Georgia and Terry Sue Billings of South Carolina; special friends and caregivers, Faye, Gary and Danielle Keller; and several cousins and friends. In addition to his wife, a son, Gregory Allen Billings, preceded Mr. Billings in death in 2007. Graveside services were conducted Thursday afternoon at Mulberry Cemetery with the Rev. Ennis Hyman officiating. Burial was beside his wife, Ruth Billings, who passed away in 2006. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Raymond Carroll Bradford, 90, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 2013) at Donalson Care Center. He was a native of Lincoln County and the son of the late William Mack and Anna Margie Pearson Bradford. Mr. Bradford retired from Ryder Truck Rental after for 34 years as service manager and diesel mechanic, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, and a member of the Kelso Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder. His hobbies included woodworking, golf, gardening and small engine repair. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Martha Brooks Bradford of Fayetteville; two sons, Malcolm Ricky Bradford of California and Harry Bradford of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Betty Bradford Groce of Fayetteville and Barbara Bradford Groce and husband, Terry, of Apex, N.C.; grandchildren, Brian Bradford, Susan Newnam, Becky Mahon, Heather Leslie, Audrey Groce King, Todd Groce and Tyler Bradford; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dean Honea and Dot Hudson; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bradford was preceded in death by parents, six brothers and three sisters and son-in-law, Rodney Groce. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Raymon Davis, 67, a resident of Toney, Ala., and a retired master sergeant from the U.S. Army who also served in the U.S. Marines, died Monday (Sept. 23, 2013) at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with Chaplain Jerry Sherbourne officiating. The family requests memorial donations to the Salvation Army. Billy Wayne Edmondson, 80, of Fayetteville, died Thursday (Sept. 26, 2013) at Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Edmondson was a native of Lincoln County, the son of the late Carl W. and Ola Mae Edmondson and was preceded in death by his sister, Nelle Howard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. A retired local business owner for over 30 years, Mr. Edmondson owned and operated Auto Parlor Body Shop here in Fayetteville. A member of the Baptist faith, he attended the Rock Family Worship Center. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Pinkstaff Edmondson of Fayetteville; brother, Joseph W. (Gloria) Edmondson of Fayetteville; three daughters, Teresa (Jeff) Massey of Columbia, Mo., Kay (Ronnie) Smith of Fayetteville and Kellie (Wendell) Clemons of Flintville; two sons, Barry (Renee’) Edmondson of Prospect and Brian (Tina) Edmondson of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren, Christal, LaCarrie, Chase, Tyler, Peige, Corey, Roxi, Malaya and Christian; and three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jacob, Paisley Mae. Graveside services were conducted Sunday afternoon in Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor Don Gray officiating. Memorials may be made to the Rock Family Worship Center. Judy Hall, 66, of Cowan, died Friday (Sept. 27, 2013) at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Mrs. Hall was the daughter of the late James Everett Clara Mae Newton Bradford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Otis Earl Hall; a brother, James Bradford; and a sister, Minnie Ruth Moorehead. Mrs. Hall is survived by a son, Wade (Suzanne) Hall of Tullahoma; a daughter, Kristi (Kerry) Stewart of Estill Springs; grandchildren, Amanda Hall, Kelsi Stewart and Kendall Stewart; and brothers, John Bradford of Huntland, Harold and Randy Bradford, both of Fayetteville. Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Haynes officiating. Burial followed at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Lucile Haney Ingle of Fayetteville died Saturday morning (Sept. 28, 2013) at Donalson Care Center. A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late William Virgil and Bertha Locker Haney, was retired from Fayetteville Electric System and was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ. She was a past member of the Fayetteville Art League, served as treasurer for Stewart’s Creek Cemetery and loved crafts and working in her flower garden. Survivors include her step-daughter, Noel Burch and husband, Rick, of Downey, Calif.; niece, Deborah Haney Schremser and husband, John, of Montgomery, Ala.; nephew, William V. Haney, Jr., and wife, Linda, of Woodvale, Ala.; sister-in-law, Virginia Haney Bigham of Scottsboro, Ala.; and several cousins. Graveside service was conducted Monday afternoon at Stewart’s Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Jason King, 40, of Fayetteville, died Monday (Sept. 23, 2013) in Taos, N.M. He was employed as a cable lineman. Billy “Boo” Russell, 46, of Fayetteville, a veteran of the United States Air Force and an employee of Frito Lay, died Saturday (Sept. 21, 2013) at Lincoln Medical Center. Jimmy Smith, formerly of Fayetteville, died Sunday (Aug. 4, 2013) at Decatur General Hospital, Decatur, Ala., after a long illness. Survivors include his wife, Cherry Bigham Smith; daughter, Melissa Smith Bellenger and her husband, Johnny Bellenger; two beautiful grandchildren, Logan Grace Hulvey and Jack Ryan Bellenger. Jimmy is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Carol Smith Simms and Ned Simms, as well as his brother, Jeff Smith. Jimmy was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
