LCHS Band selling ‘Coach T’ shirts as fund-raiser
The Lincoln County High School Band is selling “Coach T” shirts at football games and at the high school, with a portion of the proceeds donated toward a scholarship to a deserving senior in honor of the former coach, Louis Thompson.
Brandon Grieves, band director, noted that the recipient of the scholarship does not have to be a band student. The scholarship is a way to show appreciation for Coach T, an LCHS legend.
Other funds raised will be used to pay for transportation costs associated with away football games and competitions, as well as for instruments.
T-shirts are $13, or $15 with a name printed on the back. Any size above extra large is an additional $2s. A t-shirt will be on display in the concessions stand at home football games, and order forms will be available there as well for shirt purchases.
T-shirts may be also be purchased by contacting Grieves at the high school, from any band member, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Coach Thompson was a graduate of Lebanon High School and spent his college career playing for the legendary Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant at the University of Alabama, winning National Championships in 1964 and 1965. Prior to coming to LCHS, he coached at Dadeville High School, Lebanon, Austin Peay State University and Unicoi County.
He took over coaching Falcon football at LCHS in 1989. Thompson was head coach of the Falcons for 22 years, taking the Falcons to playoff appearances in 20 of those 22 years. In 1990 and 1993 Coach T led the Falcons to their second and third state championships.
