Lincoln County songwriter Greg Mitchell recently signed a song contract with Nashville publisher Jeffrey DeBusk of ‘That Other Publishing Company.’

“I met Jeff at a writer’s night at the Commodore Lounge, a popular Nashville songwriters’ venue, and we struck up a conversation,” explained Greg. “Jeff had to leave before I went on, but I guess that was a stroke of good luck. I gave him my info, including my ReverbNation site, and he listened to some of my songs the next day, one of which was ‘I Melt’, a simple love ballad but one that he would not have heard me perform if he had stayed at the Commodore.”

“(I) listened to several of Greg’s songs and was impressed,” said DeBusk. “It’s been a long time since I was impressed.”

DeBusk is currently working on an artist development deal with a new Nashville singer and sources believe the artist is already in the studio recording the song for an upcoming project. Mitchell will only say, “We’ll see. If it works out this way, it will be a God thing that all the pieces fit together. I always said that if you start at the bottom and work your way up, you’ll appreciate success more.

“‘That Other Publishing Company’ is a small publisher, the artist is new, and this is only my second song ‘potentially’ on hold for a music project,” Greg said. “You can’t start out any closer to the bottom than that.”

Mitchell will perform “I Melt” and other songs he’s written on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln County Courthouse bandstand during the Songwriter’s Benefit Concert for Corey Buckner, a local church youth leader and Christian musician recently stricken with cancer. The benefit is being coordinated by Mitchell and Ron Hackett, owner of H-STAC Software and Web Solutions, a Fayetteville-based company.

Performing alongside Greg and Ron will be hit songwriter Jason Matthews, writer of the number one Billy Currington hit, “I Must Be Doing Something Right”, and Lincoln County artist Bonner Black.
