Inez Danner Bailey, 89, of the Plevna community, died Sunday morning (Sept. 8, 2013) in Donalson Care Center. She was a native of Madison County, Ala., and the daughter of the late Burt Cleveland and Easter Williams Danner. Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker, former employee of Serbin Fashions and was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed gardening and farming. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Bledsoe and husband, Louis, of Elora, Sylvia Plunkett and husband, Buster, of Elora; grandchildren, Craig Bledsoe of Fayetteville, Kevin Bailey of Elora; great-grandchildren, Lane Bledsoe of Ardmore, Ala., Trenton Bailey of Elora; two sisters, Marguerite Davis of New Market, Ala., and Pauline Knox of Stevenson, Ala. Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by a son, Gary Bailey. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery beside her husband, Vernon Erskine Bailey, who passed away June 8, 2013. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Margaret Sisco Burr, 86, of Nashville, died Thursday (Sept. 5, 2013). She was born and raised in Lincoln County. Margaret was a long time member of Judson Baptist Church and worked at Nashville Gas Co. for 41 years. She loved gardening and crocheting. She was preceded in death by parents, Lila and Mamie Sisco; sister, Cleo Curlee; and brothers, Leonard, Lawrence, Troy and Willard Sisco. Survived by sisters, Rrene Hopkins, Kirkland, Madeline Hickerson, Clarksville, and Emogene Hopkins, Kirkland; nieces and nephews, Wanda Fruehauf, Ricky Hopkins, Emily Boyd, Susan Johnson, Kay Sisco, Wayne Sisco and Linda Wolaver; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and extended family, Melissa Smelser and Meghan and Joshua Haugen. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, with Dr. Ernest Standerfer officiating. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Fayetteville, Sunday afternoon. Sandra Cooper, 65, of Fayetteville, died Thursday (Sept. 5, 2013) at her residence. She was born in Giles County on Dec. 18, 1947 to the late E.W. and Mable McConnell Phillips. She was a retired budget analyst for the U.S. Army and worked as the secretary for Prospect Baptist Church for the last 15 years where she was also a church member. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jasper “Buddy” Cooper. Mrs. Cooper is survived by her daughters, Cindy and Brian Johnson of Rincon, Ga., Melanie and Adam Mole of Fayetteville; sister, Patricia Golden of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Abby Mole, Peri Johnson, Gatlin Mole; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday morning at Prospect Baptist Church with Bro. Ronnie Gay officiating. Burial followed in Prospect Cemetery. John T. Long, 66, of Fayetteville, died Thursday (Sept. 5, 2013) at Lincoln Medical Center. He was born in Marshall County on July 18, 1947 to the late Curtis “Jack” and & Fannie Gaunt Long. He was a machinist at AERO in Tullahoma and was a member of St. Paul AME Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Leona Long Townsend. Mr. Long is survived by his devoted wife, Linda McCowen Long; daughter, Lisa Harris; sons, John Thomas Long, Jr., Jonathan Curtis Long; grandchildren, Elisha and Brittany Harris, Alex Rodriguez; sisters, Martha (Charles) Smith, Virginia (Alexander) Hammonds, Barbara Long, Nancy Long; brother, Curtis M. Long; brother-in-law, Lafayette Townsend; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held Monday at the St. Paul AME Church. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Malcolm Rogers, 89, of Elora, died Sunday (Sept. 1, 2013) at Lincoln Medical Center. He was born in Madison County, Ala., on Aug. 19, 1924 to the late Homer and Ina Curry Rogers. He was a veteran of the United States Army, worked as a carpenter and was a member of Plevna Holiness Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Medley Rogers; daughter, Linda Rogers; son, Glenn Rogers; and great-granddaughter, Catherine Rogers. Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife, Elsie Green Rogers; son, Ronald and Ramona Rogers; step-son, Barry and Janice Green; grandchildren, Robin Vanhoozer, Wade Rogers; step-grandchildren, Kelly Green, Mike and Nikkie Merbourn; and great-grandson, Zach Nierenberg, Jr. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Bro. Pearline Simmons, 75, of Flintvillle, died Saturday (Sept. 7, 2013) in Monteagle. She was born in Shelby County, Ala., on April 17, 1938 to the late Elisha and Katie Foreman Scott. She was a homemaker and was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James M. Simmons. Mrs. Simmons is survived by her daughter, Sheila and Andrew Tjelmeland of Monteagle; sons, Zachery Simmons of Flintville, James and Wanda Simmons of Lynchburg; sisters, Doris Payton and Frankie Collinsworth, both of Calera, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Monica and Lewis Sharpe II, Trevor and Renee Tjelmeland, Tabitha Houser, Danny Houser, Tanya Thorpe, Brian Simmons, Brianna Simmons; and 11 great-grandchildren. Annie Laura Staples, 82, of Estill Springs, died Friday (Sept. 6, 2013) at her residence. Joe Lee Sullivan, 65, of Huntland, died Wednesday (Sept. 4, 2013) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born May 14, 1948 in Tullahoma, the son of the late R.L. and Robbie Christine (Parks) Sullivan. Surviving are wife, Sheila Syler Sullivan; sons, Robert Lee (Amber) Sullivan of Huntland and William Martin (Shay) Sullivan of Huntland; sisters, Wanda Sisk of Flintville and Judy Sullivan of Winchester; grandchildren, Martin Sullivan, Waylon Sullivan and Jayci Sullivan; as well as several nieces and nephews. William Homer Thomason, 53, of Fayetteville, died Thursday (Sept. 5, 2013) at Lincoln Medical Center. He was a construction worker. Preceding him in death were his parents, George Robert Thomason and Virginia Hunt Thomason; daughter, Amanda Louise Thomason; and sisters, Kitty Jean Doyle, Barbara Earlene Holdaway and Chella Thomason. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Thomason; sons, Billy Ray Thomason, William Kyle Thomason and William Jason Thomason, all of Fayetteville; sisters, Kathy Cook of Woodbury, Linda Robertson of Kentucky and Judy Harrod of Nashville; brothers, Carl Anthony Thomason of Fayetteville, Frank Finchum, Phillip Thomason and Larry Thomason; and four grandchildren.
