Archivists to digitize Civil War items

A team of archivists and curators from the Tennessee State Library and Archives and the Tennessee State Museum will be at the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Library on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to digitize and photograph Civil War photographs and articles for an online, interactive exhibit.

Those willing to take part in this event will help create an exhibit that will trace Tennessee’s Civil War history, county by county. The exhibit, “Looking Back: The Civil War In Tennessee”, commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Area residents are asked to bring in original Civil War era photographs, documents and other artifacts to the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Library on North Elk Avenue, where the items will be scanned or photographed and returned to the owner within an hour. Contributors receive free digitization services, copies of digital images and guidance on how to care for and preserve their items.

Appointments are required and may be made through the State Archives office. For more information, contact the library at (931) 433-3286.
