Fair gates open Saturday
The 109th Lincoln County Fair gets underway Saturday for a week of great entertainment that’ll include music, bull riding, the demolition derby and the always-popular harness races.
Voted the Best Community Event in The Times’ annual reader poll, this year’s Lincoln County Fair will feature concerts by Gretchen Wilson and Colt Ford – Gretchen will be performing opening night, Saturday, Sept. 7, and Colt will perform the final night of the fair, Saturday, Sept. 14.
Admission on the first Saturday night of the Fair is $20 and includes the concert and ride armband, while admission on the second Saturday night is $10 and includes admission and the concert. Generally, though, admission is $7 for ages six and up. Under six are admitted free of charge. A season pass is $35, and parking inside the Fairgrounds is available for $5. Senior Citizens’ Day will be held on Tuesday with all seniors being admitted for $2 each.
The 13th Annual Barbeque Cook-Off begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with brangus and limousin showmanship classes and shows at 2 p.m. Kohlwater, a local band will open at 7 p.m. for country music singers Craig Campbell and Gretchen Wilson.
On Sunday, the dairy goat show will start at 10 a.m., followed by quarter horse, mule and pony races at 1:30 p.m., a miniature horse fun show at 2 p.m. and miniature horse sulky races and the draft horse and mule show.
Monday dairy cattle and market hog and swine shows will be held at 5 p.m., followed by the Challenge of the Super Bulls at 7 p.m.
The antique tractor exhibit opens at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the same time harness races begin. At 5 p.m. beef cattle shows will be held. Wednesday, harness races are at 2 p.m., followed by the demolition derby at 7 p.m.
The races start back up on Thursday at 2 p.m. Evening harness races will also be held beginning at 7 p.m. Also, the poultry show and sale will start at 4 p.m. with shorthorn and other breeds being shown at 5.
Friday harness races are on tap at 2 p.m., along with the 4-H and FFA sheep show. The red angus and Aberdeen angus show will start at 5 p.m. The big attraction of the day will be the sanctioned truck and tractor pull at 7 p.m.
On the final Saturday, Sept. 14, the 4-H Wool on Parade, Clover Style Show, Fun with Fashion will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. An antique tractor presentation will be held during the harness races. Then a miniature horse give-away will be held at 7 p.m.
Four Miles Gone, another local band, will open for Payton Taylor and Colt Ford with evening concerts beginning at 8 p.m.
