The late Doug Shrader of Flintville is among five athletes to be inducted into the Middle Tennessee State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

An induction event will take place Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Rose and Emmett Kennon Sports Hall of Fame prior to the Blue Raiders’ football game against the Memphis Tigers.

Also included in the induction are Dewon Brazelton (baseball), Dwone Hicks (football), Priscilla Robinson Murray (basketball/volleyball) and Roger Carroll (football).

Shrader is a two-sport honoree, having excelled in basketball and baseball for Middle Tennessee in the 1950s.

In 1955, he was selected to the All-Ohio Valley Conference teams in both sports and earned an All-American honorable mention in basketball.

During his senior year in 1956, Shrader was named the Blue Raider basketball MVP and baseball’s Player of the Year. He was honored as the Volunteer State Athletic Conference basketball Player of the Year and joined the Blue Raiders’ 1,000 Point Club, as well as being named All-OVC in baseball for the second time.

The list of accolades as a senior includes averaging nearly 18 points per game on the hardwood and a batting average of .440 on the diamond.
