Fayetteville First United Methodist Church welcomed their new senior pastor, Will Wells, and wife, Pam on Sunday, June 30.

“I really like it here, and hopefully we’ll be here a long time,” Wells said.

He added that the people here are helpful, kind and friendly.

The pastor has been in the ministry for 28 years and most recently moved from Fairfield Glade near Crossville where he served at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.

Wells graduated from Gallatin and has family roots in Russellville, Ala., and Blue Hill, Neb., a small town of about 600 people.

Ministry is a second career for the pastor. He worked for TVA in the nuclear power industry previously.

“From the time I was a young child, I felt a call for the ministry,” he said, adding that he ran from it many years until he couldn’t run anymore. He went to seminary at Candeer at Emory University at Atlanta and has served in United Methodist Churches all over Middle Tennessee.

When asked what he likes best about the ministry, Wells said he meets different kinds of people and likes helping folks find their talents and use those talents to serve God and make the community better.

In his spare time, he likes to fish, hunt and occasionally play golf.

Pam, originally from Nashville, was just licensed for ministry this spring and is hoping to receive a church of her own to serve in. She has been actively involved in ministry, but “this was a new calling for her,” Pastor Wells explained.

The couple has been married for 36 years and has one son in Murfreesboro and another son and his wife in Nashville.
