Fresh, down home country food is the standard at Lois’ Kitchen, a new family-owned restaurant that recently opened on Winchester Highway across the street from the South Central Human Resources Agency office.
Fayetteville-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce held a well-attended ribbon cutting Tuesday morning at the family-friendly restaurant.
The restaurant came into being when Joey and Jeannie Kindred realized that for years they have had the same dream of opening a restaurant – even before they were married.
“I’ve always wanted a restaurant named after my grandmother (the late Lois Brooks),” said Jeannie. “She cooked for various restaurants and schools.”
Jeannie has fond memories of spending time with her grandmother in Lincoln County and loved her cooking. With that in mind, their plan for the restaurant took shape.
“I want them (the customer) to feel like they’re going to their grandmother’s house,” she said.
Both Joey and Jeannie have years of experience in the restaurant business. Joey attended Johnson & Wells Culinary School, graduating at the top of his class.
Jeannie has experience on the front end of the restaurant business in management.
Other family members involved in the business are the couple’s grown children, Jonathen and Seaton, who helped with the construction inside the building and painting. Seaton will continue helping in the restaurant and working as a line cook, Jeannie explained. Michelle Tallent Fitts, Joey’s cousin, also helps run the front of the restaurant.
“We don’t open any cans here,” Jeannie stated, noting only fresh vegetables are used.
In addition to burgers, the offerings include sandwiches, such as the grilled chicken tender club and classic BLT piled high with bacon and several others. Blue-plate specials are offered Monday through Friday and include a choice of meat, three veggies, cornbread or biscuit. Salads include Lois’ House Salad with homemade dressing and the classic Caesar salad with homemade Caesar dressing. Homemade beef and bean chili are regulars on the menu, along with many other favorites.
Jeannie noted that they give law enforcement officers and firefighters discounts.
The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. The restaurant phone number is 931-251-3024.
