Word from the Library: Summer activities continue
Life at the Library will be back to normal for a while now that our Summer Reading Program has ended. We had such a wonderful time with all the kids and parents that came out each week and brightened our days with their smiles and laughter. I am still reeling over the immense success we had this year, especially given that I came to the Library so late in the planning process. Already we are eager for next year and hope you will all return for adventures in science.
We still have a lot planned for the remainder of the summer. On July 13 we will be celebrating all things Hello Kitty, with stories, giveaways and a coloring contest. The contest will be judged by age group, and winners in each will receive a gift basket full of goodies. We will also have a winner for the most creative coloring entry. Age groups will be 3-4, 5-7 and 8-10.
Your official coloring template may be picked up at the library or you can color the one provided in this week’s Elk Valley Times. We will also have a drawing for a grand prize giant basket full of Hello Kitty goodies. You must, however, be present for the grand prize drawing. Festivities begin at 10 a.m., and Hello Kitty fans of all ages are welcome to attend.
If you have visited the library in the past week, you have undoubtedly noticed our mess in the front area. Unfortunately, it is an inconvenience to our patrons that could no longer be avoided. For quite a while we have suffered through some pretty serious plumbing and sewer issues, but with the current work in progress, those problems will now be a thing of the past. We apologize for any hassles you may have encountered while approaching the front doors, but know that we are thinking of the library’s best interests in the long term and it will be over very soon.
I would like to thank everyone that came out to the Friends’ latest book sale and helped to make it a wonderful success. The next sale will not be held until September. We would also like to thank the Friends of the Library for their very generous recent donation. These funds will be used to build a permanent outdoor sign for the library as well as initiate our own e-Book collection through READS.
If you have not been to the library in a while, I would like to invite you back. You will likely be surprised at all the recent changes we have made with new displays, many new books and updated juvenile section and a brand new young adult section among other things. We also have a website in the works that should be rolling out to the public very soon. So come on by – we’d love to see you at the library!
