Supermoon

Super MoonThe largest full moon of 2013, a so-called “supermoon,” lights up the night sky above the Lincoln County Courthouse Saturday evening. The event marks the moon’s arrival at perigee, the point in its orbit at which it is closest to Earth, a distance of 221,824 miles. While the moon typically reaches perigee once each month, this weekend’s lunar perigee was coupled with it being a full moon, making it the largest full moon of the year.
