48th Arts, Crafts Show at Park Friday, Saturday
The 48th Annual Arts League Arts & Craft Show will be held at the Stone Bridge Memorial Park this Friday and Saturday, June 14-15.
The show’s hours Friday are from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., with a free concert planned from 5-9 p.m. Friday evening. Then on Saturday, the show will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
“The last five years have been the best attended for the Arts League Arts & Craft Show, with an average of 40 booths being sold each year; however, this year the Arts League has sold 87 booths with several of the booths representing more than one artist,” said Mark Kelso, an organizer of the event.
“This year we will have two children’s zones that will include a bounce room, reverse bungee jump, rock climbing wall and a trackless train,” he said. “Also, the usual array of various carnival food offerings will also be available.”
The Arts League tent will be giving away a t-shirt every hour on the hour from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. People wanting to buy one of the t-shirts may come by the Arts Center tent any time and purchase a shirt. The starting price will be $ 15, although organizers will also have a duck pond from which buyers can pick a duck and receive a discount ranging from a free shirt to $1 off the price.
“Everyone will be a winner, and no one picking a duck will not save at least a buck!” Kelso said.
Talented exhibitors come from Lincoln and surrounding counties, as well as such cities as Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, and Knoxville. Additionally, exhibitors from Mississippi, Florida, Missouri, and North Alabama will also be on hand.
“Eighty-percent of the vendors are coming from out of town,” Kelso continued. “There will be a variety of original art, photography, crafts, woodworking, jewelry, and much more.”
Just like last year, there will be a free In-the-Park Dance on Friday night from 5 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m. At 5 p.m. The Mothership Band will be opening for Dr. Mojo, which will start playing approximately 6:30 p.m. They will be playing music from the ‘60s through the ‘80s and beyond.
“Dance the night away or bring your own chair or blanket and enjoy the evening,” said Kelso. “All day Saturday there will be local entertainment, too!”
Saturday’s schedule includes, 9 to 10 a.m., The Persuaded; 10-11 a.m., Just of Clicks Cloggers; 11 a.m. until 12 noon, Marina Poole; 12 to 1 p.m., Simply Fabulous; 1 to 2 p.m., The Heart Felt Band; 2 to 3 p.m., Fisher’s of Men; 3 to 4 p.m., Heather Lindsey Band; and 4 to 5 p.m., The Mothership Band.
Additionally on Saturday, Patsy Trigg, best known for her gold and multi-platinum selling Christmas song, “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”, will be also be singing. Her hit, with 14 million in sales and counting, has been in the top 10 list of Christmas songs for the past 32 years.
In 2012, Trigg and George Wells put their minds together to come up with the next Christmas hit song, “It’s A Merry Christmas When Pigs Fly”. The song is currently available as a children’s audio book, on eBook and as a video. The video can be seen on YouTube at http://youtu.be/ryNdLP9g6PQ. They have signed with Dan Dee Toy Ltd. for a plush toy that sings “It’s A Merry Christmas When Pigs Fly”, to be on the market this year. The release of a hardback book and a Christmas album based around their new Christmas song is planned for 2013.
The time of Trigg’s performance on Saturday had not been determined prior to deadline.
“This is the 48th Annual on the Arts League Arts Show and the largest one we have had to date,” added Kelso. “Arts and crafts will be available for purchase from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine, and admission to the show is free.”
