Lady Falcons wrap season at 34-17

softballLincoln County High School’s Lady Falcon softball team wrapped up its 2013 season with an impressive 34-17 record.

The ladies won the District 8-AAA regular season with an 8-2 record. But, after a tournament action win over Franklin County, the ladies were swept by Tullahoma and Shelbyville, ending their season. The Lady Eagles gave the Lady Falcons three losses during the year. It’s the first time in five seasons the ladies have not advanced to the regionals.

“Of course I feel like we should have gone deeper into the season,” said Coach Troy Smith. “We ran out of luck at the end.

“But I don’t want to take away from a good year,” added Coach Smith. “Thirty four wins. We had a great year. We won a lot of games.

“Only one team is going to be happy at the end,” he continued. “That’s our goal every year, to make it to the state tournament and have that shot at a championship.

“I want to say thank you to all the hard-working members of our booster club and to the community for their support of Lady Falcon softball,” Coach Smith added. “It’s a year-round process now. Hopefully by the end of the summer, we’ll have our hitting facility finished. It takes time – everything we’ve been doing goes back to 12 or 13 years in planning. But, we have a great place for our girls to play softball.”

As a team, the Lady Falcon hit an impressive .336. Ladies hitting over the .250 mark were as follows: Taylor Boyett led with a .438; Lauren Hunt, .431; Taylor Ferguson, .389; Baylee Hammons, .380; Riley O’Neal, .330; Kristen Hancock, .299; Holley Gray, .285; Traci Shelton, .278; Gus Brantley, .271; and Miller Baggett hit a .269.

On the mound, Boyett led with an impressive ERA of 1.49 with 24 wins against 9 losses and 203 strikeouts.
