Obituaries for June 12 Edition

Erskine Bailey, 86, of Plevna, Ala., died Saturday evening (June 8, 2013) at the Lincoln Medical Center. Mr. Bailey was a native of Morrison, the son of the late Thomas Bard and Carrie Mae Ledman Bailey. He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Inez Bailey of Plevna; daughters, Sylvia (Buster) Plunkett, Barbara (Louis) Bledsoe, both of Elora; grandchildren, Craig (Candice) Bledsoe of Fayetteville, Kevin (Rachel) Bailey of Elora; great-grandchildren, Lane Bledsoe of Ardmore, Ala., and Trenton Bailey of Elora. Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his son, Gary Bailey; brothers, Bernard Bailey, Everette Bailey; and sister, Kathleen McCorkle. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Martin officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in New Market, Ala. Billy Harold Bell, Jr., 48, a resident of Ardmore, Ala., and a bricklayer, died Thursday (June 6, 2013) at Athens-Limestone Hospital. There are no services planned at this time. Donations may be made for funeral expenses to Krista Dingley at PNC Bank, Ardmore, Ala. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Betty Ferrell, 75, of Mulberry, died Friday evening (June 7, 2013) at her residence. She was a native of Moore County, the daughter of the late Frank and Mattie L. Stone Hice. She was a member of the Mulberry First Baptist Church and was retired from the Tullahoma Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include sons, Brad (Liz) Ferrell of Mulberry and Joe Ferrell of Murfreesboro; granddaughter, Chelsea Ferrell; brother, Bill (Debbie) Hice of Manchester; sister-in-law, Joanne (Dr. Larry) Durisch. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Bates officiating. Private burial followed in the Mulberry Cemetery. Donald Wayne Jackson, 56, of Ardmore, died Saturday (June 8, 2013) at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Derrick Moose officiating. Burial will follow in Gatlin Cemetery. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

William Lee Jacobs, 83, of Fayetteville, died Friday morning (June 7, 2013) in Donalson Care Center. He was a native of Lincoln County and the son of the late Frank Vance and Mary Sue Noah Jacobs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, former truck driver for Genesco and Lincoln Farmer’s Co-op and was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Thanna Bevels Marshall Jacobs of Fayetteville; son, Edward and Suzy Jacobs of Saltillo, Miss., son, Tony Jacobs of Gurley, Ala.; step-daughter, Julie Smith of Cumming, Ga.; step-son, David Marshall of Cumming; granddaughter, Hannah Jacobs of Knoxville; step-granddaughters, Stephanie and Jessie Smith, both of Cumming; sisters, Nancy Hudson of Fayetteville, Judy Manning of Clarksville, Lanelle Pennington of Brookville, Ind., and Ann Dabbs of Murfreesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Smith officiating. Burial was in New Grove Cemetery. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

William Robert Jordan, 96, of Fayetteville, died Thursday morning (June 6, 2013) in Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro. A native of Dayton, he was the son of the late Henry Richard and Susan Ritchie Jordan. Mr. Jordan moved to Chattanooga at age ten and to Lincoln County in 1994.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retired accountant with Brooks Welding Supply and a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ. Prior to moving to Fayetteville, Mr. Jordan served as an elder at White Oak Church of Christ in Chattanooga. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Dora Winkler Jordan of Fayetteville; two daughters, Anne Underwood and husband, John, of Fayetteville, Jennifer Anderson and husband, David, of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Shannon Reed of Fayetteville, Allyson Barnes of Fayetteville, Julie (Julio) Orantes of Murfreesboro, Carrie (Jeb) Matulich of Frisco, Texas and Leigh (Eric) Houston of Castle Rock, Colo.; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Black and Bro. Tom Russell officiating. Burial was in Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gloria Daphne Lankford, 57, of Prospect, died Sunday (June 2, 2013) at her home. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Ala., with Bro. Jerry Allen officiating. Burial was in Ford’s Chapel Cemetery, Harvest, Ala. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bill Roberts, 80, of Leoma, died Saturday (June 8, 2013) at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia. He was a native of Leoma, retired from Williamson Lumber Co. as a contractor and was a member of Methodist faith. Mr. Roberts also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and Anibel Barnett Roberts; one brother, Bobby Roberts; and one sister, Linda Roberts Hollis. He is survived by three sons, Steve, James (wife Susie) and Wade Roberts; one daughter; Lisa Jagod (husband Gary); one nephew, Bobby Hollis; and Clara Roberts. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  A graveside service will be conducted at Leoma Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning with Pastor Duane Murray officiating with military honors to follow. Oma Lee Snow, 92, of Crossville, formerly of Flintville, died Monday (June 3, 2013). A graveside service and burial were held Wednesday afternoon at Flintville Cemetery. She was born on Nov. 7, 1920, in Cullman, Ala. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Jennie Henseley Marty; husband, Virgil Snow; son, Charles Hite III; brothers, Johnny, James and Homer Marty; sisters, Roselle Kuykendall and Edrice Dodson. Mrs. Snow is survived by her son, Newton Snow (Jane); daughter, Jennifer Oakes (Darvin); seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob Marty of Florida and Gene Marty of Michigan; sister, Inez Cassanova of Louisiana; brother-in-law, Eldridge Snow of Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Carlotta Cowan Pickney of Winchester, Jo Marty of Huntland and Linda Snow of Florida.

Tammy Whaley, 43, of Ardmore, Ala., died Monday (June 3, 2013) at Huntsville Hospital. She was born in Limestone County, Ala., on Oct. 2, 1969 to Albert and Gertrude Sloan. She was a housekeeper and was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Whaley is survived by her parents, Albert and Gertrude Sloan of Ardmore, Ala.; sisters, Wanda and Tim Simmons of Osteen, Fla., Diane and Johnny Watson of Ardmore, Ala., Vicky and Darrell Thompson of Kelso; brother, Alfred and Sandra Sloan of Ardmore, Ala.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and special friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Bolin officiating. Burial followed in Gatlin Cemetery. Joe Allen Williams, 72, of Elora, died Monday (June 3, 2013) at Donalson Care Center. A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Carlton and Wilma Shap Williams, was the owner of Williams Grocery at Elora and a member of the Oakley Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Vandiver of Elora; sisters, Sandra Williams of Ardmore, Margrett Miller of Florida; brothers, Hugh Williams of Huntsville, Ala., Rowe Williams of Lexie Cross Roads and Kenneth Williams of Plevna, Ala.; and grandson, Jacob Vandiver. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with burial in the Miller Cemetery. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
