Word from the Library … Library hosts field trip
On May 22nd we had the pleasure of sharing the company of 160 kindergartners from Ralph Askins Elementary here at the Library. Miss Sue read a story to the children about taking a field trip to a library and we learned about different types of libraries. We also led the kids on a tour, talked about the Summer Reading Program and told about all the different services Library patrons may use.
Some of the children brought their library cards with them to show off, and many had already applied for their first cards through the schools collaborative program with us. For those waiting for the new cards to arrive, they are finally here and waiting for you at the circulation desk! The children were so well behaved and truly seemed to enjoy their time here at the Library, and we were so glad to share the afternoon with them.
On May 28th I was the Friends of the Library speaker at 6 PM in the Library Genealogy Room. We discussed conserving and properly maintaining photographs, which also included digitization. The June speaker will be Mary Lee Glass of TN Valley Archaeological Research and she will discuss preserving paper documents.
May 29th was our last regular Story Hour before the Summer Reading Program begins, and Miss Sue read stories and led activities that celebrated the end of the school year. ThisWednesday our Story Hour schedule changes a bit because of our special Summer Reading guests. Throughout June the regular story hours will be held at 2pm, with the exception of June 19, as we welcome our special speakers at 10 AM. Our events at 10 AM and 2 PM will both consist of stories and fun activities, so if your child cannot make one, maybe he or she can make the other. We have a lot of new and exciting things to learn about over the summer and we have had several children sign up for Summer Reading already.
We have a lot in store during the summer here at your local public library, so come on out and see us! If you have any questions, please call us at 433-3286.
