Lincoln County High School’s Dylan Hudgins slides safe at the plate in district tournament action against the Franklin County Rebels.
Lincoln County High School’s Falcon baseball season came to an end last week in the semifinals of District 8-AAA action.
LCHS finished third during the regular season of district play. The Falcons finished third in the tournament.
In baseball, the top two teams advance to the Region. Tullahoma defeated Columbia, 7-6, in the championship.
Lincoln County’s season wraps up with a 23-16 overall record.
The Falcons won over Lawrence and Franklin County. But, it was the Columbia Lions who gave LCHS its second loss of the tournament.
Receiving All-District honors were Riley McCown, Caleb Smith, Dylan Hudgins and Zack Malone.
In the second round of District 8-AAA tournament action Tuesday night, the Falcons’ 10-run ruled Lawrence County in six innings, taking the win, 10-0.
Lincoln County scored 2 in the first, 2 in the second, 2 in the third, 3 in the fifth and 1 in the sixth.
Caleb Smith went the distance, facing 24 batters, giving up 1 hit, 12 strikeouts with 4 walks. LCHS was solid defensively with no errors.
The Falcons had 9 hits with Riley McCown and Dylan Hudgins having 2 singles. Brandon Gower, Zack Malone, Grady Wright, Logan Smith and Josh Whitaker had singles.
Malone, McCown, Jake Taylor and Logan Smith had 2 RBIs. Hudgins had 1.
The win matched up Lincoln County with the Rebels, and the Falcons finished on top, 4-0.
LCHS scored 1 in the first, 2 in the fourth and 1 in the fifth.
Malone went the distance, facing 24 batters, finishing with 5 hits, 5 strikeouts and no walks. The Falcons had 1 error in the 7 innings.
Lincoln County had 6 hits with Wright finishing with 2 singles. Gower, Malone, J. Taylor and L. Smith had singles. RBIs came from C. Smith, J. Taylor and L. Smith.
The win over the Rebels sent the Falcons to the semifinals the same day taking on Columbia.
With Vanderbilt signee Hayden Stone on the mound, the Lions took the win, 7-0, holding the Falcons to two hits and two walks.
Hits came from McCown and J. Taylor. McCown and L. Smith reached on walks.
Columbia scored 1 in the first, 1 in the second, 1 in the fourth, 3 in the fifth and 1 in the sixth.
The Falcons used six arms. McCown got the start, going one and a third innings, giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, off 3 hits. Zach Harwell went 2 innings, giving up 1 run with no hits, 4 walks and 1 strikeout. Michael Lackey pitched 1 inning, giving up 3 runs, 1 earned, off 2 hits, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. Carson Taylor faced 4 batters, giving up 1 hit with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Jake Pierce pitched to two batters, giving up 1 run off 1 hit. Jonathan Jacks finished giving up no runs, no hits and 2 strikeouts.
