police lightsThe Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and the Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) will be conducting sobriety roadside safety checkpoints during the Memorial Day Weekend, starting Friday, May 24, through Monday, May 27.

Roadblocks will be held on Lynchburg Highway between the 15 and 16 mile marker and Huntsville Highway near the 8 mile marker.

“Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States,” said Chief Deputy Bill Reavis of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment, Reavis said. Deputies will target those who operate a motor vehicle while impaired and take actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists.

“The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving,” Reavis said.
