Debbie Phillips, a certified teacher specializing in art at Riverside Christian Academy, has been selected to attend the 2013 Tennessee Arts Academy in July.
The Tennessee Arts Academy is the nation’s premier professional development institute for arts education. It has been held annually since 1987 on the campus of Belmont University in Nashville.
The Arts Academy trains over 275 kindergarten through twelfth-grade teachers and administrators every summer, who in turn impact over 125,000 Tennessee students each year in their individual schools across the state. Taught by nationally and internationally renowned instructors and artists, the Academy’s advanced curriculum, cutting-edge methodology and unique philosophical perspective maximize participants’ learning experiences.
With renewed energy and knowledge, educators trained at the Tennessee Arts Academy are better equipped and motivated to raise achievement standards and effect positive and lasting change for Tennessee students, providing them with the necessary skills to become creative and productive members of our workforce and society.
Anticipating this year’s Academy, Debbie Phillips said, “I am so excited to be accepted to the Academy this July! I am anxious to learn new things to help me grow the Art Department at RCA!”
This year the Academy’s expert faculty will teach a diverse range of classes in music, theater and visual art, as well as special classes in school assessment. Highlights of the week include live performances, daily speeches by well-known artists and educators, and multiple art exhibitions. Many of the events are free and open to the public.
