The University of Tennessee Extension Service is hosting a strawberry preservation training on May 10 from 12:30 until 4:30 p.m. at the Ralph Hastings Building auditorium adjacent to the extension office, 208 Davidson Street East.
Participants will prepare strawberry preserves, strawberry-kiwi jam, strawberry jelly and a strawberry freezer jam. The water bath method of canning will be demonstrated, along with how to check a pressure canner gauge. Emphasis will be placed on preserving foods safely at home to avoid potential illness.
The cost of the strawberry preservation training is $20 and includes a canning book, notebook and the cost of jars and produce. Each participant will take home samples of their canning efforts.
There are limited spots still available. Please contact the Lincoln County UT Extension office at 433-1582 to reserve your spot. All Extension programs are open to anyone who would like to participate.
