Lincoln County High School’s baseball team picked up two important district wins last week over Shelbyville.
Over the weekend, the Falcons played in a tournament in Chattanooga and finished 3-1.
Currently in District 8-AAA standings, Tullahoma is 8-0; Columbia, 7-1; Lincoln County, 4-4; Franklin County and Lawrence County, 2-6; and Shelbyville is 1-7.
On Wednesday of last week, the Falcons won at home over the Eagles, 3-1.
LCHS scored 2 in the first and 1 in the sixth. The Eagles’ run came in the second.
Zack Malone went the distance, supported with a solid defense giving up 1 run off 1 hit with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.
The Falcons finished with 6 hits with Logan Smith ripping a single and double. Zack Malone, Caleb Smith and Grady Wright had doubles, and Dylan Hudgins had a single.
C. Smith, Hudgins and L. Smith had RBIs.
Tuesday, LCHS traveled to Shelbyville and took the win, 4-0.
Runs for the Falcons came 2 in the first, 1 in the fifth and 1 in the seventh.
Caleb Smith went 5 innings of the shutout, giving up 2 hits, 7 strikeouts and 5 walks in the books. Riley McCown went two innings, giving up no hits, 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.
The Falcons finished with 7 hits. C. Smith had 2 singles; Josh Whitaker had a double; Brandon Gower, Malone, Hudgins and Jacks had singles.
Saturday, the Falcons defeated Grundy County, 10-1.
Dylan Hudgins got the win, going 5 innings and giving up 1 run off 3 hits, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. Nick Gatlin finished, giving up 1 hit with 3 strikeouts.
LCHS had 12 hits. Hudgins and L. Smith had a single and double; Jacks doubled; Malone, R. McCown, C. Smith, J. Taylor, Whitaker and Tristian Norman had singles.
Friday, the Falcons lost to Greater Gwinnett Christian, 11-7.
LCHS knotted it at 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Gwinnett rallied with 4 runs in the top of the eighth to finish with the win.
C. Taylor went 4 innings, giving up 4 runs, 1 earned, off 6 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Jacks went four innings, giving up 7 runs, 5 earned, off 6 hits, 5 walks and 8 strikeouts.
The Falcons had 4 hits with a triple by C. Smith. Malone, R. McCown and Whitaker had singles.
Earlier Friday, Lincoln County defeated Ooltewah, 15-10.
R. McCown went six innings, giving up 10 runs, 9 earned, off 13 hits, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Jake Pierce faced 3 batters to finish.
The Falcons had 13 hits with Hudgins having 2 singles and a double; Bower and C. Smith had 3 singles; Whitaker, single and triple; Malone had a single.
LCHS opened the tournament on Thursday with a 10-7 win over Soddy Daisy.
C. Taylor went 2 innings, giving up 5 runs off 7 hits with 2 walks and 1 strikeout. Pierce went two and a third innings, giving up 2 runs off 1 hit with 4 walks and 1 strikeout. Zach Harwell finished, giving up no hits or runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.
For their next action, the Falcons travel to Franklin County on Tuesday, then host the Rebels in the second game of the series on Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, LCHS hosts Giles County starting at 6 p.m.
