Huntsville, AL — The Arts Council has announced the 8th Annual Official Alabama State Fiddling Championship to be held Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Panoply Arts Festival in Big Spring International Park. On-site registration begins at 10:00 a.m. and the fiddling begins at 10:30, although early bird registration is open now on The Arts Council’s website.
Fiddlers will compete in a total of five categories; four amateur levels divided by age and one Master Fiddler level open to all ages. The competition welcomes fiddlers from across the nation.
The Official Alabama State Governor’s Cup and $4,000 in cash prizes will be awarded based on the scoring of three esteemed judges. The judges consist of Deanie Richardson, past Tennessee State and Kentucky State Fiddling champion and regular Grand Ole Opry performer; Bryan McDowell, fiddler for The Claire Lynch Band and winner of state championships in both fiddle and guitar; and Megan Lynch, a six-time national fiddle champion and Board member of the Grand Master Fiddlers Championship.
Allison Dillon-Jauken, Executive Director of The Arts Council, said, “This competition is always so much fun. Besides the official competition on stage, there’s always at least one shade tree jam going on so it is a festive atmosphere all the time. Participants and audience members alike experience a rewarding day of great fiddling.”
