Border Battle this weekend

softballLincoln County High School’s Lady Falcon softball team will host the 18th Annual Border Battle Thursday through Saturday this week.

Games will be played at Don Davidson Park. Thursday, the price of admission is $5. Games get underway at 5 p.m. Friday games start at 4 p.m., and Saturday’s games at 9 a.m.  with admission at $7 per day. The single-elimination tournament gets underway at 12:20 p.m. Saturday.

Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament this year, including Lincoln County, Greenbrier, Summertown, Columbia, Tullahoma. Buckhorn, Pope John Paul II, Smyrna, Franklin County, Oakland, Sparkman, Hendersonville, Lawrenceburg, Moore County, Marshall County and Warren County.

Franklin Tournament

Friday and Saturday the Lady Falcons played in Franklin High School’s tournament.

The ladies advanced to the championship game and were edged by Columbia Academy, 6-5.

Lauren Hunter went one and a third innings, giving up 4 hits. Breanna Owens finished, giving up 4 hits with 1 strikeout.

Holley Gray had 2 doubles; Taylor Ferguson, double; Hunter, Taylor Boyett, Bailey Hammons, Riley O’Neal and Kristen Hancock had singles.

Earlier, the ladies won over Richland, 12-4. Hunter went the distance with 9 hits, 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Boyett had 4 singles; Hancock had 2 singles and a double; O’Neal and Holley Gray had 2 singles; Hunter, Hammons and Miller Baggett had singles.

The ladies won over Pope John Paul II, 4-3.

Hunter went the distance with 5 hits, 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Ferguson, Hammons and Gus Brantley had 2 singles. Boyett and Hancock had singles.

The ladies won over Trinity Christian, 4-1.

Boyett pitched, giving up 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Boyett singled and doubled; Brantley, doubled; Hunter, Ferguson, O’Neal, Baggett and Hancock, singled.

In the first game of tournament play, the ladies were defeated by Franklin, 3-1.

Boyett went the distance, recording 7 strikeouts, 5 hits and 2 walks.

Boyett led at the plate with 3 singles; Hancock had a double; Hunter and Gray had singles.

In Pool Play, the ladies went down to Ezell Harding, 6-5, and lost to Beech, 3-1.

The Lady Falcons’ game last week with Tullahoma that was postponed due to weather has not yet been rescheduled.

On Monday of this week, the ladies were to travel to Lawrence County, then on to Franklin County Tuesday starting at 6 p.m.
