Local author releases inspirational poetry
For years, Mary Ammons has been writing inspirational poetry for her children, friends and relatives. These poems are now compiled in her first book, “The Journey in Every Life”, published by WestBow Press.
“God’s given me the gift to write poetry,” said Ammons, a Lincoln County resident.
“If anyone has received a poem from me, it will be in this book,” she said.
Although many people who have received poems are in Lincoln County, one of the recipients now lives in Morristown.
Through the poems, she ministers to people about grief, loss of loved ones, trials, choices, service, vision and more. While the book ministers to people in different ways, it can serve as a teaching tool for adults or children, sometimes in a humorous way.
She says the poems minister to people with ADD or ADHD, as well, and “puts a mirror in front of our face.”
Some of the titles of the poems include “The Old Man in the Woods”, “Overall in Overalls”, “Blessed in the Midst of Distress”, “Karen and Jesus” and “When God Zips Your Lip”.
Mary sometimes reads a poem on WBXR Radio 1140 AM.
“My husband (Zachary) does a radio program on WBXR Radio 1140 AM on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. called, ‘The Heart to Serve like Jesus’.”
The couple has two sons, Zachary, 12, and Wyatt, 10, and a grown daughter, Savannah Crosby.
The 407-page book contains a total of 207 poems and is available in hardback or paperback.
Locally, the book is available at “The Ballerina Monkey” located at 206 East College Street. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. There, the paperback will be sold for $25; retail, the paperback sells for $27.95.
