Authorities remain on scene of murder

Crime Scene TapeLincoln County authorities remain on the scene of what is believed to be a murder at 181 L. Mitchell Road in southeastern Lincoln County.

At about 1:05 p.m. Monday deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the residence to do a welfare check after a utility worker reported noticing a strong order coming from the home.

“Once on the scene, deputies made entry into the residence, at which time they determined it to be a crime scene with at least one person deceased,” stated authorities with the sheriff’s department in a press release Tuesday afternoon. “At that time, the scene was taped off, and the district attorney general and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were notified and reported to the scene.”

TBI’s crime scene investigation unit remained on thescene Tuesday afternoon.

“Inside the residence was one body that could not be identified,” continued the release, adding that the remains have been sent to the state medical examiner for identification and determining the cause of death. “At this time we do not know the identity and will not speculate as to who it might be.”

The TBI and the sheriff’s department are seeking any information on this case and are looking for a 1995 Ford Ranger, red in color, with Tennessee tag number 421-SMV.

If the vehicle is sighted, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department should be contacted immediately at (931) 433-9821. Any contact with the subject should be avoided, authorities said.
