Tiger baseball team drops two
In their first year of a varsity program, the Fayetteville High School Tiger baseball team took two losses last week, falling to South Pittsburg and Forrest.
The loss to South Pitt was the Tigers’ third defeat of the season going into extra innings.
Friday, FHS went down on the road to South Pittsburg, 6-5.
With the game tied at 4-4 at the end of regulation, the Tigers were up 5-4 after the top of the ninth. But, the Pirates added two runs to the board in the bottom of the inning to finish with the win.
Donavan Potts got the start, facing 25 batters, giving up 4 runs (three earned) off 6 hits, 3 walks and 1 strikeout. Ryan Yates came in facing 23 batters, giving up 2 earned runs off 5 hits, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.
The Tigers generated 7 hits, all singles, with Ryan Yates with 2, and Jacob Pigg, Sean Hall, Cole Roland, Tra Emmons and Zach Harwell with 1.
Tuesday, Fayetteville traveled to Forrest and went down, 10-2.
The Rockets scored 2 in the first, 2 in the second, 3 in the third and 3 in the fourth. The Tigers picked up 2 runs in the second.
Yates got the start, facing 31 batters, giving up 10 runs (3 earned) off 10 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Pigg faced 5 batters, giving up no hits or runs with 2 walks and 1 strikeout.
Fayetteville finished with 5 hits coming from Sean Hall with a double; Cole Roland, 2 singles; Ryan Yates and Darrion King, singles.
For their next action, the Tigers were to travel to Cascade on Monday, then host the Champions yesterday (Tuesday) starting at 4 p.m. Thursday, FHS travels to Richland with the first pitch at 6 p.m.
