The Lincoln County Schools have partnered with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade OEF XII-XIII in the Walk to Afghanistan Project.
The idea originated with the thought of, “I wonder what it’s like to walk a mile in a soldier’s boots during deployment”.
“This is a special project to encourage family member and soldier morale for troops deployed to Afghanistan,” said Carman Smith with the office of Coordinated School Health, Lincoln County Department of Education.
“The project also encourages fitness, overall well-being and positive relationship building. Team members at Lincoln County schools will be logging miles to reach the goal of 10,644 miles walked,” she added, noting that is the distance from the Center of the Fort Campbell Army Airfield to Afghanistan.
“We encourage anyone in the community to participate in this project supporting our troops by logging miles walked, jogged or strolled,” Smith said.
If any community members would like to have your miles logged for Walk To Afghanistan, please contact Smith at the Department of Education at 931-251-3219 and they will add your miles to the walking log.
“Help us show support for all of our troops and especially for our local service men and women. No amount of miles is too small. Just one mile gets us one mile closer to Afghanistan,” Smith said.
