Buttercups along King Drive and Old Wells Hill Road in Fayetteville reach upward, seeming to welcome spring which officially gets its start Wednesday of this week, March 20. The first day of spring marks the vernal equinox, when the day and night are each approximately 12 hours long and when the sun rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west. Since Friday, folks have here have also enjoyed milder temperatures and budding Bradford pears, other sure signs that spring is arriving.
