The Fayetteville Fire Department is giving away nine-volt batteries, as long as supplies last, for smoke alarms to senior citizens or disabled persons living within the corporate limits of the City of Fayetteville.
This is an effort of the Department’s Fire Prevention Division to ensure that seniors have a working smoke alarm with fresh batteries in their home. Fayetteville Fire Department will install them by appointment, if the person is unable to install them.
The guidelines are as follows: recipients must reside in a home that is private property; government housing and apartment complexes should use their provided building maintenance staff; the home must be within the corporate limits of the City of Fayetteville (persons outside the city limits but in the Urban Growth Boundaries will not be accepted); and residents must be at least 60 years old or disabled.
Recipients are limited to two batteries as long as supplies last. Those who would like batteries should call (931) 433-6563.
Fayetteville Fire Department wants to remind everyone to change the batteries in their smoke alarms when they change the time on their clocks either to or from Daylight Savings Time.
