Vietnam Era Veterans’ featured speaker for its March meeting is Jose Melecio, the Veterans Outreach Specialist for the Nashville Vet Center.
The meeting will be held Thursday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Shelbyville American Legion Post #23, 721 Kingree Rd., Shelbyville, the Vietnam Era Veterans local “Base Camp”.
The meal for the evening is $10.

Melecio was born in Puerto Rico and traveled worldwide as a child with his father on various assignments in the Army. At 17, he joined the Air Force. As an enlisted member of the Air Force, Jose served as a Health Services Management Journeymen, where he worked in various departments ranging from medical coding, billing, referrals management, medical records and aero-medical evacuation.
During his Air Force career, Jose served in tours in several overseas locations, including Iraq, Germany, Italy and Korea. As a VA employee at the Houston VA Medical Center (VAMC), Jose worked in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit as the lead Medical Support Assistant handling all of the administrative matters on what was an extremely busy unit.
Jose then worked as an Office Manager for the Harris County Vet Center in Houston, Texas, for over two years prior accepting his current assignment as the Veterans Outreach Specialist for the Nashville Vet Center in December 2011.
