Obituaries for Feb. 27 edition

Bobby Lee Arnold, 63, of the Shady Grove Community, died Monday (Feb. 18, 2013) at his residence. He was born in Lincoln County on Nov. 20, 1949 to the late Charlie Lee and Ruthie Bell Walker Arnold. He was a farmer and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Neva Luttrell, and three brothers, Charles, James and Pat Arnold. Mr. Arnold is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Pauline and Tyson Scheer of Flintville; son, Bobby Dale Arnold of Flintville, Connie Arnold; sisters, Sue Nell and Wiley Sisk of Winchester, Mary and Jeff Trimble of Jonesboro, Ga., Linda Lee of Murfreesboro and Peggy Arnold of Flintville; and brothers, Wayne and Jean Arnold of Huntland, Billy and June Arnold and Ray Arnold, both of Flintville. Graveside funeral services were held Friday afternoon in Shady Grove Cemetery with Rhea West officiating. Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Jasper Newton Couch, 88, of Athens, Ala., died Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2013) at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Ala., with Bro. Dale Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, Ala. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gracie Louise McAlister Drennon, 89, of Ardmore, died Tuesday morning (Feb. 19, 2013) at Bailey Manor in Fayetteville. Mrs. Drennon was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late John William and Agnes Moore McAlister. She was a retired teacher and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Drennon was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Quilters Guild. Survivors include a son, Floyd Bennett Drennon and wife, Roselle, of Millbrook, Ala.; two daughters, Donna Barber and husband, Joe, of Blanche, Dailia Adams and husband, Rabun, of Petersburg; grandson, Michael Drennon and wife, Jennifer, of Tampa, Fla.; two granddaughters, Melanie Wright and husband, Jason, of Petersburg, Misty Ratliff and husband, Nathan, of Chapel Hill; five great-grandchildren, Cara Galyon, Garrett Wright, Nolan Wright, Emma-Claire Wright and Royce Drennon; and one sister, Anna Marshall of Fayetteville. Visitation with Mrs. Drennon’s family was held Saturday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Oscar Melvin Henderson, 82, of Fayetteville, died Saturday (Feb. 23, 2013) at his residence. A native of Albertville, Ala., he was the son of the late Carrie Lee Roberts and Gilbert B. Henderson. He was a retired millwright worker, was in the Army and a member of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Annie Henderson of Fayetteville; daughter, Susan Michelle Ingle of Anniston, Ala.; sons, Paul Henderson of Flintville and Christopher Henderson of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren, Heath and Tiffany Nave, Christopher and Zachary Henderson and Shannon and Brent Ingle; six great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Darden of Naples, Fla.; brother, Alfred Henderson of Washington, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his daughter, Roxanne Nave. Graveside services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Pleasant Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Graves officiating. Donald Hobbs, 72, of Elkmont, Ala., died Friday (Feb. 22, 2013) at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Ala., with Bros. Joel Logan and Steve Hargrove officiating. Burial was in Hastings Cemetery, Ardmore, Ala. Gladys Ruth Jean, 83, of Taft, died Sunday (Feb. 17, 2013) at Donalson Care Center. Mrs. Jean worked as a seamstress for Serbin Manufacturing and was a member of Kirkland Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Langford officiating. Burial followed in Kirkland Cemetery. Susie A. Locke, 89 of Fayetteville, died Thursday (Feb. 21, 2013) at Vanderbilt Medical Center. A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Hannah Bain Pirtle and John Thomas Pirtle. She was a former employee of Serbin Manufacturing, retired from Martin Industries and was a member of the First Church of Nazarene. Survivors include sons, Ronnie Locke and wife, Faye, Kenneth Locke and wife, Karen; grandchildren, Jimmie Locke of Chicago, Ill., Wayne Locke of Fayetteville, Michelle Holland of Hazel Green, Ala., Christie Boyd of Florida and Devonia Locke of Alabama; step-grandchildren, Spencer Threatt of Shelbyville and Jason Threatt of Chicago; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with Bros. Meade and Bundy officiating. Burial followed in Lincoln Cemetery beside her husband, Charles E. Marylan Goodrich “Pete” Patrick, 77, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday (Feb. 19, 2013) in Huntsville Hospital. He was a native of Lincoln County and the son of the late Arthur and Lizzie Patrick. Mr. Patrick was a former employee of CFW where he worked in Paint & Steam Department and was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Janie Renfro Patrick of Fayetteville; children, Billy Patrick, Teresa Bland and husband, Mike, Danny Patrick and wife, Tina, all of Fayetteville; brother, Madison Patrick of Chicago, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lizzie Patrick; son, Bobby Patrick; sister, Lizzie Mae Duke; brothers, A.W. Patrick, Melvin Patrick and Thurman Patrick; grandson, Daniel Lynn Patrick; and great-granddaughter, Carly Anna Patrick. Clarence Noble Prater, 81, of Elkmont, Ala., died Sunday (Feb. 17, 2013). He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Pearson-Ratterman Chapel with burial in Middletown Cemetery. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Julia Pauley Robinson, 84, of Fayetteville, died Sunday night (Feb. 17, 2013) at Donalson Care Center. She was a native of Auxier, Ky., and the daughter of the late Boyd and Lillian Perry Pauley. Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker and a member of the Heritage Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Charles Robinson of Fayetteville and James Robinson of Dearborn, Mich.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Emma Freeman of Marshall, N.C., Phyllis Dockery of Dallas, Ga., Anna Gibson of Hellier, Ky., Irene Maltese of Michigan; brothers, Wade Pauley and Donald Pauley, both of Hellier, Ky., and Arthur Pauley of Dallas, Ga. Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her husband, Elzie Robinson; son, Jerry Robinson; and one sister, Vivian Childers. Funeral services were held Thursday morning at Higgins Funeral Home with the Revs. Bobby Bates and Wayne Hollingsworth officiating. Elizabeth Sanders, 90, of Fayetteville, died Friday (Feb. 22, 2013) at Donalson Care Center in Fayetteville. Born Friday, Feb. 2, 1923, in Athens, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Orman Forrest Ferguson and the late Cassie Bera Elliott Ferguson. She was a lifelong resident of the Blanche Community and was a member of Blanche United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working outside and with flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bobby Sanders, and several brothers and sisters. Surviving are her sister, Ruth Beeler of Taft, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Ala., with the Rev. William Moede officiating. Burial was in Blanche Cemetery, Blanche. Joe F. Tucker, 68, of Fayetteville, died Saturday (Feb. 16, 2013) at Huntsville Hospital. He was born in Lincoln County on July 28, 1944 to the late Joe Ed Tucker and Irene Tawwater Tucker, who survives. He was a truck driver. Mr. Tucker is survived by his mother, Irene Tucker of the Camargo Community; sons, Kevin Tucker of Florida and Brian Tucker of Georgia; sister, Judy Stovall of Kelso; brother, Bill Tucker of the Camargo Community; niece, Sherry Cagle of Fayetteville; great-niece and nephew, Donette and Cary Cagle; nieces and nephews; and close friend, Paul Hunter. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Tucker officiating. Burial followed in Prosperity Cemetery.
