Legislative Plaza round dance
Debbie Capino of Lincoln County (at left) joins others of American Indian descent at Legislative Plaza in Nashville for an Idle-No-More Round Dance. Four drummers and approximately 33 people joined in a round dance. They spent about 20 minutes on the plaza last Tuesday on a frigid afternoon, with some passersby joining in on the dance. Sen. Joey Hensley, a supporter of the American Indian events, also joined the group. Among the causes the worldwide Idle-No-More movement represents are efforts to save the environment, preserve the heritage of the Native Americans, bring people together and draw attention to the alarming rate of rape of indigenous women around the world.
