FMS advances to sectionals

Fayetteville Middle School’s Lady Tigers advanced to the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association’s sectionals over the weekend.

The ladies won over E.A. Cox, 31-20, in the tournament held in Lewis County. The fourth place finish sent the ladies to E.O. Coffman Middle School in Lawrenceburg for the sectionals.

On the team are Amy Cobb, Carly Fee, Maggie Cunningham, Sarah Lawson, Makenzie Moorehead, Ashley Yatsko, Kevondria Carr, D.J. Horton and Casey McNeal.

In the first round Thursday, the ladies won over Cheatham County, 43-26.

It was all Lady Tigers from the opening tip-off, up 11-4 at the end of one.

FMS won the second frame, 15-8, and was on top, 26-12, at the break. Ashley Yatsko hit two from the arch in the period.

The second half went to the Lady Tigers, 17-14, for the win.

Fayetteville hit three from long range with Yatsko with two and Horton with one. From the line, the ladies were 10 of 12.

The win sent the ladies to the semifinals Saturday against Harpeth Middle School from Kingston Springs. FMS went down, 25-15.

Fayetteville Middle School’s Lady Tigers advanced to the sectionals of the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association tournament.

Fayetteville trailed 7-3 at the end of one and 14-5 at the break.

The second half went to Harpeth, 11-9, for the win.

Horton finished with 8; Fee, 3; and Makenzie Moorehead and Amy Cobb had 2.

Horton had one from the arch, and the ladies were 4 of 10 from the line.

The ladies qualified for the consolation game against Sycamore to be played Monday at 4 p.m.
