Lincoln County High School’s Falcons picked up an overtime win over Shelbyville in their second meeting of the season Friday night. Saturday night, LCHS went down to Giles County.
LCHS was to have had a game with Columbia at home on Tuesday of last week, but the game was postponed due to weather until Tuesday of this week.
The Falcons overall record stands at 13-7. In District 8-AAA action, Tullahoma is 5-0; Lincoln County, 4-1; Lawrence County and Columbia, 3-2; Franklin County is 1-5; and Shelbyville is 0-6.
Against the Eagles, the Falcons took the win, 71-64, in overtime. The Falcons jumped out to a 15-5 lead by the end of the first quarter.
But, the Eagles won the second, 16-12. At the break, LCHS was up 27-21.
With 4:22 in the third, Shelbyville tied at 33-33. The Eagles hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, and the Falcons were up 41-39 at the end of three.
At the 3:07 mark in the fourth, B.J. Thompson put Lincoln County up by eight, 57-49, but the lead would be short lived. The Eagles won the next three minutes, 9-2. With two seconds remaining in the game, Shelbyville dropped two from the line, on top 60-59.
With the Falcons final possession under the Eagles basket, Ty Hadley threw a mid-court pass to B.J. Thompson. Thompson was fouled, while making the catch and went to the line with 1.6 seconds remaining in regulation. Thompson dropped one of two free throws, knotting the game at 60-60.
Lincoln County owned the overtime period, taking the four minutes, 11-4, for the win, 71-64.
B.J. Thompson led for the Falcons with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Thompson has had a double-double in all five of his district match-ups. Justin Blackwell had a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling 10 rebounds. Ty Hadley had 12; Tradarius Christian, 8; Xavier Halley-Hyde, 4; and Riley Malone had 2.
The Falcons were 22 of 40 from the paint and 3 of 15 from the arch. From the line, the Falcons were 18 of 38.
Lincoln County won the boards, 48-43.
Saturday night the Falcons went down to Giles County, 76-65. The ‘Cats dropped three from the line, fouled while shooting a three at the buzzer, and were up 28-12 at the end of one.
The Falcons won the second frame, 14-9, and trailed 37-26 at the break.
In the third, Tyler Jones hit two from the arch, and B.J. Thompson added 7. The Falcons won the eight minutes, 22-17, and trailed 54-48 at the end of three.
Early in the fourth, LCHS closed the margin to five points, but that was as close as it would get. The Bobcats won the frame, 22-17, for the win.
B.J. Thompson led for the Falcons with 17 points. Justin Blackwell had 13; Tradarius Christian, 11; Tyler Jones, 9; Xavier Talley-Hyde, 8; Tradarius Christian, 5; and Ty Lewter scored 2.
Lincoln County was 21 of 44 inside and 4 of 15 from the arch. From the line, the Falcons were 11 of 16.
For their next action, LCHS hosts Columbia in a make-up game Tuesday. Friday night, Lawrence County comes to town and then Moore County visits on Saturday. Game times are at 6 p.m.
