12th Annual MLK, Jr. Walk Monday

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The 12th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Walk will take place Monday, Jan. 21, beginning at 10 a.m.

Everyone is welcome to join the walk and enjoy the program to follow.

The day begins with a prayer breakfast to be held at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at 7:30 a.m. A donation for the breakfast will be appreciated.

Marchers will proceed to the Lincoln County Courthouse on the square where there will be a brief program. From the courthouse, the group will march to St. Paul AME Church for a celebration and program honoring Dr. King.

Dorothy Small will be the featured speaker.

“There will be performances by youth from various churches throughout the city,” said Thomas Kemp, organizer.

“We hope to make it one of the biggest marches ever,” added Kemp.

Martin Luther King, Jr., T-shirts are available for the march. They start at $12 and the price goes up depending on whether it is a short- or long-sleeved style. For more information about T-Shirts, contact Barbara Kemp at 433-0252.

On Saturday, Jan. 26, the Martin Luther King, Jr., Unity Banquet will be held at Mary’s Chapel AME Church starting at 5 p.m. Take-out dinners start at 4 p.m. The cost of dinner is $10 per person.
