State Senator Jim Tracy took the oath of office on Tuesday in Nashville as the 108th General Assembly was gaveled into session.

The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice William C. Koch, Jr., during the legislature’s three-day organizational session which ended Thursday.

“I am honored to represent the 14th district in our State Senate for a third term,” said Sen. Tracy. “Over the past eight years, I have been able to meet so many great people from Rutherford County all the way to Lincoln County. I will continue to remain accessible and open to the citizens I represent.

“Tennessee is in much better shape than a lot of other states, but we still have hard work to do.”

The 14th district includes Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall and Moore counties and parts of Rutherford County. Tracy was first elected to the State Senate in 2004.

Other organizational tasks that were taken up last week include the adoption of Senate rules, election of the state’s constitutional officers and election of the members of the General Assembly’s Joint Fiscal Review Committee. The General Assembly will then recess for two weeks to allow for office assignments.
